Pics are so small it is hard to tell anything. It appears chip-carved. Can't tell if it is something old or a more modern import.

It looks like a piano stool to me.

Pure guess. Piano stool for a long-bodied pianist? Sewing stool?

It had a specialized purpose, but bedarned if I know what. It has the cutout for your heels, and it's chip-carved for sure. A sewing chair would have a back and most piano benches are either wide enough so move on or swivel. This is neither. Maybe it went to a parlor organ?

I bought it of an old gentleman in his 8os in 1982 he was selling most of his Antique off, I tried to buy full volume of Encyclopedia Britannic but he would'nt sell them. It is Antique as it was passed down from his Mother.

Really need some better pictures. I am particularly interested in how the interior looks. I am getting a bit of a Spanish vibe from the arm but am not really finding anything quite like this. Chip carving was done elsewhere and I have looked at both Fresian and Breton pieces without success. Since you are in the UK, perhaps some of our members from there might have some insights. Any history of chip-carving in the UK?

It isn't quite chip carving, although it does have much detail.
The Welsh made a lot of carved furniture, also with circular motifs, so I wonder if it could be Welsh.

They need to be below 1mb, preferably 640 x 480k.

I’m getting a Jacobean Revival feeling from this. Lots of 17th Century motifs here, but 1940s massing. Hey, and the room in which you photographed it? Very nice!!

Pics are still not sufficient to evaluate. Larger size now makes them out of focus. Think you need to take some new ones with close details of carving and construction.
