Featured Antique Tiffany & Co Box

I was given an antique Tiffany and Co box. It needs cleaned up a bit, but after a little polish, it’ll be beautiful. I was wondering if someone else has come across a box like this one. It’s close to 3 1/2 by 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 deep. My research has led me to possibly a cigarette box. Wood lines the inside. The numbers 23325 are printed on the bottom with an M.

Does indeed look like a cigarette box. Looks like someone wiped it with something wet and left it. Should clean up a delight.

I write this a lot on the forum. IMO, it's always best to go to the source when "renewing" an item such as yours. If it were mine, I'd take it/send it to TIFFANY's and have them do. That's a service they provide.

Oh, and I don't think it's antique. Vintage more likely. Someone will be able to date by the numbers.

It was made in 1950 according the number.

 

That makes sense. Smoking's heyday. A real classic design.

True! What will I put in the box without a box of cigarettes?!

 

Just a small clarification - the pattern number tells you when it was first produced, that 'M' director's mark indicates possible production for this particular piece until 1956 when the director's mark changed to an 'L' (and the same design could have been produced later as well)...

I was told I could get about $100 for it. But I think it would be worth more than $100 once cleaned up a bit.

 

Two have sold on eBay recently. One for $266 plus shipping and the other was listed at $299 and the seller accepted an offer. I just sold a similar sized box for $200 that wasn’t Tiffany but hand some things going for it.
Your box weighs 370g or so, or at least another with same model number did. You have to factor in the wood but the wood in these is often lightweight. The silver alone is probably worth at least $200 right now without the Tiffany name.
