I picked up this very beautiful Mexican Sombrero from an estate sale in Virginia. The brim is 14 inches across and the crown is about six inches tall. The inside appears to be made of woven straw covered with either felt or wool. The embroidery is amazing and features an eagle stitched into the crown holding two crossed Mexican flags in its talons, and the stitching around the brim is intricate as is the chin strap. Can anyone tell me any background info, please (possible timeframe, location, etc...) Thank You! I think nice sombreros were a relatively common thing to bring back from Mexican vacations back in the day. They are often left sitting around at estate sales. Worth buying at right price but big to ship. I think Doug’s is an exception though. If you looks at the most expensive sold example on eBay it’s in this eagle style but Doug’s may be better. That’s just my experience though. I’ve picked them up in final seconds of sales.

This wasn't a souvenir item. It was part of a charro's costume. Someone knowledgable should be able to date it by the height and shape of the crown. Referred to as a sombrero águilas (eagles) as noted above. And missing it's lining which likely carried a makers label.
