Got this trunk at an estate sale about 1 year ago in Rochester NY. It is approximately 22 inches long by 12 1/2 inches wide with a max height of 10 1/2 inches. I think it was homemade but was hoping the hardware would help define the age. View attachment 276562 hinge.jpeg side.jpeg front.jpeg handles.jpeg

Lovely little thing. Can we see the inside ? Im guessing here, but 1850s-60s . IF I remember correctly they started using flat top trunks more after that because more people were traveling and they were easier to store .

Thanks so much for the input. This is one of my favorite finds and I love that it could be from the 1850s

I would be on board with a 3rd quarter of the 19th century date with this.

Might be a "stagecoach trunk" that at one time was covered in canvas or leather. That would explain why the wood looks rough and nails on the edge of the top. These were very popular to collect in the 1970s, and sold several in my shop. If the covering was beyond repair, the trunk wood was refinished. Sweet piece.

Thanks again for the responses. Based on your input I did some different searches and found a trunk that is like the one Pat describes above. It is the same dimensions as my trunk and looks like it has a similar front. This is a link to it and I attached a picture trunk.jpg https://www.ebay.com/i/223714205256?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28
