I won this in a auction for a garage that went out of business; it was in a cupboard in the manager's office.
It has some serial numbers & marks, but the handle & the blade's numbers are different?
I've never seen one of these with a hollow handle - it looks like a piece of pipe. Was the handle homemade & added at a later date - or did it come with the blade & was it to store maps, etc??
What time period is this from?
    What country is it from?
Thanks in advance for any help!

many a bayonet was later turned into a field knife....and this is missing any mount to fit on a rifle......but for a change it is replete with marks that should be helpful to zero in on it's original manufacture.....
i'll try to drop by later..

It looks real familiar to me...think I might have one with a hollow handle also; why, that is another question.

Why would someone do that? It could be used as a knife & kept as a bayonet, right?

    many reasons...
the O ring could be fouled...
or the butt screw could be too loose , and it would get in the way when using the blade at close quarters....
using a reworked bayonet as a trench knife was not unheard of by a long shot !!
