You cannot hard solder on pewter. It is silverplate on nickel silver. I would call it 1900 +/- 20 years.

Yours has the "Half Pint" in a line, whereas the one in the ebay listing is "Half" over "Pint" with the other stamp above. Not sure what that means, but it's definitely different.

First of all, I’m not relying on anybody’s eBay description. We all know how far off-base (okay, WRONG!) those can be…

My gut feeling, however, is that this is silver plated metal, possible nickel, made sometime after 1900 or so. (Of course, I could be all wet.)

    There’s a photo of a similar, but tarnished, item here: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-henry-turner-paddington-4-1-2-silver-mug .

Have you polished your cup at all? Yours is very shiny looking, but have you tried a bit of polish on a cloth – and if so, has any black come off? That’s not a sure test, but at least it might be an indicator of silver there as plating.

I didn’t find as much info about Henry Turner of Paddington as I expected to find. I did find some Henry Turner hotel ware of a different style, but with marks not terribly dissimilar to yours, and it seems to fit the time frame I mentioned.

There is one such hotel item listed here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Henry-Turne...est-3inTall-/191700866324?hash=item2ca2431514

This is just extrapolation, based on the Trust House company whose logo is used on the referenced item. Assuming we’re talking about Trust House Ltd UK (not, say, Trust House Ltd New Zealand), we’re talking about a time frame from about 1904 to 1970, when the firm’s name & logo changed. To me, that 1904 to 1970 time frame seems about right for your item, as well.

    Just some thoughts...

p.s. I see that Cheryl (dragonflywink) hasn’t checked in yet on this one. Maybe she has more info about the company?
