Featured Anybody know what this little thing is?

It is very well made.
Mounting plate is 1 inch x 1 inch and looks like pressed steel.
It was obviously riveted to something with 3 rivets, two of which are still in place.
The cover looks like it was plated – maybe chrome plated?
The little tab seems to hit the cover, preventing it from closing flat.
No lettering, or marks of any kind.
The lighting makes it appear as though it is bent, but I think it was manufactured that way.

 

a hook for hanging something on a wire, with a tension cover closure so the wire doesn't fall off the hook...

Does it close freely, or does it snap shut? Can we see it closed?

 

What actually moves on it? Is it hinged or does anything slide on it?

 

it looks to have tension......but it's old so.....like me...maybe it don't move so well !!! ...

 

I pushed the little tab back into the slot in these photos because I wanted it to shut flat.
