Another fresh find from charity shop, a French jet necklace to me, the clasp is also same as a Whitby jet necklace of mine, what do you think of its age? 1.jpg

Yes, it looks like French jet, aka Bohemian glass. But just to be sure, have you tested it for jet?

Age is difficult to say. I had a similar French jet one, same clasp too. It was bought new in the 1950s by the first owner, but they made them decades before that too.
    How long is it?

Yes it leaves no mark on ceramic so definitely not real jet. Length around 16''. Anyway, looks great when stacked with my other whitby jet chain!

I did research it and was thinking it’s possibly antique (Victorian) glass beads? Or was I completely wrong? Thanks

    Yes, they are 19th century.:)
But, did you test them for jet just to be sure? The best way is to rub a bead on the unglazed back of a white ceramic tile (or something similar).

Glass imo, real jet usually doesn't come with so many facet, and should have a smooth shine. The way it wears suggests glass too

I'd have figured those for 1950s Czech glass straight off. Maybe as late as the 70s depending on the length. The barrel clasp used looks more 1970s than anything else, but it could have been a really good restringing.

Yes that clasp could be later, as no wears compare to be beads

The jet test....what does it do to the ceramic to indicate whether it is or is not jet?

Real jet would leave a brown mark while glass won't, but that doesn't guarantee it's jet
