I will say that so many of the appraisers were lovely people.
Suzanne Perrault(ceramics), David Lackey(ceramics), Leigh Keno(furniture/folk art), Meredith Meuwley(glass), James Callahan(Asian Arts), David Bonsey(musical instruments) all were memorable and friendly.

And a special shout-out to Rafael Eledge (civil war militaria) who took the time to chat with me.
    A real southern gentleman.

Only one guy, who shall go nameless(ceramics) was bitchy, but that's ok.

I have a bad feeling about the jewelry. If the safe was taken because it was a safe, someone might have melted it down for the metal. Safer that way. (It was Grandma's and no one wants it....) That said, it may still be out there. Someone may have thought it was cool and just kept it.

My step-son and I went a few. years ago when it was in Newport, RI. I had an antique book printed in late 1600s by a man imprisoned in the Tower for heresy and he had an 18th century Danish dragoon flintlock pistol. All the tents were set up on the lawn of one of the mansions. It started raining the night before and when we arrived it was pouring. After a couple of hours they moved it indoors. It was a disaster. Everyone was cranky, nothing went the way it should. The appraisers were all snapping at people. The only item they highlighted was a Civil War uniform that someone inherited from a great-uncle. The book appraiser didn't even open my book. He just said "not interested" and shuffled me along. The gun appraiser was the guy looking at the uniform so he barely glanced at the flintlock. We weren't the only ones experiencing this because they'd lost so much time moving indoors and they were on a tight schedule. :(

The TLDR: How NOT to run an antique show. Pissing off the entire crowd 101.

I just saw that episode recently! I’ve always wondered if folks that appear on the show are targeted for break ins afterwards.

My exes mother has been trying to get into an ARS forever and has yet to get tickets when it’s local. She has a family heirloom that was snuck out of China during the 1949 revolution. Since she hasn’t been successful in getting tickets I got it independently appraised.

The only reason I think I might get tix is because my items are sports related and the timing may be good. Trying to not get my hopes up, though.

Eh went ahead and signed up at the last minute after being terminally unsure of my decision. I never know when I'll be working and unavailable, and it's quite the drive, but I have an interesting (to me lol) item that I want to share. I don't really need anything else appraised or identified, and standing around in line is something I stopped doing after my convention days, so I can always not go later I guess.

Watch, next year it'll be in my city or nearby. :bucktooth:
