I have tried reading the name and can't make it out. 20240427_102927.jpg

Wondering if the first name might be Phyllis? It came from a DE yard sale, but alot of the stuff was from NJ.

Any chance of a photo of the inscription without the glare?

I will get another shot. I would love for it to he Phyllis Coates, the first Lois Lane!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't think it's Phyllis Coates. Also not sure of the name Phyllis, as I see nothing that looks like it could be an "h" after the "p" -- And it appears that Coates's hair in front was always worn puffed up, not slicked down as in that photo. And her eyes look different to me.

That being said, she does have a slightly familiar look to me. (I've seen dozens -- possibly hundreds-- of films from the 1930s-1940s.)

If you can get a non-glare picture, try cropping it down to just the photo and running an online image search. Doesn't always work for photographs, but sometimes it might match somebody.

Good luck! I look forward to somebody coming up with an ID!

Sorry but did you just crop your first shot instead of provide a new one? There still seems to be quite a bit of glare... but perhaps my eyes are just old.

She looks like Claudette Colbert, but it probably isn't her.

The picture was sitting in a box of junk. I looked at it and put it back because I could not figure them out. I heard another family looking at it and they sounded like they were going to buy it, and I immediately got mad that I didn't just grab it. To my surprise, they put it back!! As soon as they stepped away, I ran back over like a 4 year old and grabbed it!! Now I'm glad I did!!

Ahaha. So many people do this on fbmp when I ask for more photos. Some just send more photos of everything except what I asked for but I always find the crop move agitating. As if I wouldn’t realize. No offense to op of course.

    That was my mom's name!!
(Thank goodness she wasn't named after my grandmom/her mom - Gertrude Hodges! (I guess it was a popular name in her day, but...! She had everyone just call her Gert)
