    IMG_20180907_154806-1587x1190.jpg Hello from Belgium,
I have 3 Arabic themed paintings which I would like to sell but not sure of the value. Two of the paintings represent the same scene but one is defo a better painting. The frames are very nice. One of the paintings was framed by Biggs & Sons London and is signed JV in bottom right hand side. The larger painting is signed C.Wiley. It is slightly impressionist and well painted. Any info would be greatly appreciated !

They are very nice, and the first one is a bit like a mirror image of the Schreyer painting Jivvy showed.
The subject style is Orientalist painting, which can be executed in any technique, so it is not a 'school' of painting.

I think all of them are based on Schreyer paintings -- if you go to google images and search on "bedouin paintings schreyer", I think you'll likely find close matches.

There are lots of modern copiers, but I'm also beginning to think Biggs & Sons may have been up to more than framing!

The bottom image is taken from a sold ebay item that came up when I searched Biggs & Sons frames.

It's possible that someone is taking old frames and repurposing them. Or even creating new labels.

    My thoughts as well.
Which doesn't mean that Belgaqueen's paintings are not of the period, but it is something that should be looked into.
Is the label of the period?

The painting style does not appear to be high quality, somewhat loosely painted for the period.

Yes, it's really old the label and the frame is lovely gilt and black. I did my research too and found other paintings framed in the same one...

Thanks for all the info ....it's still a bit of an enigma.... The paintings are painted on wood..

Can you show the backs? Show the panels on which they are painted?

I suspect there is a problem. To me the address on these labels is 3L Conduit St., but the address was 31 Conduit St.

It does appear that someone may be creating instant heirlooms.

Nice catch. I've checked several that I found suspect and they all say "3L."

Fascinating. Large scale fraud. And from China most likely
