IMG_0296.jpeg IMG_0297.jpeg IMG_0299.jpeg IMG_0300.jpeg IMG_0300.jpeg IMG_0301.jpeg I bought this owl bracelet online from France and it arrived home today.
Its silver colored metal with copper underneath I think.
Its made for tiny wrists but luckily I am blessed with such. :)
I didn't pay much so I thought it was worth the gamble for me.
Would this be genuine art nouveau or a later recast? And how can you see?
It wasn't sold as art nouveau. It just stated vintage bracelet...
If you do image search you can find some similar ones online but still I m not sure of him.
Either way he can stay with me for a while because I have a soft spot for owls. :shame:
    So, what would you say?

Wow, you find the coolest stuff, Dessert. It's a great looking piece no matter when it's from. Looks stunning on your wrist.

Here's a question for anyone who knows Art Nouveau jewelry. Would a woman have worn a heavy style owl bracelet like this in the Art Nouveau period? When we say "revival" does it mean an actual copy of something that would have actually been worn? (Learning here.)

IMG_0322.jpeg Kyratango, ah well, it was worth the gamble
I have seen this design as something else too...its a cool belt buckle so maybe that was what woman in the art nouveau period actually wore

Obb hmmm I doubt it. I cant see any unusual marks that are not supposed to be there in the outside or inside

I love owls and cannot resist cute little things with enormous round eyes but this one is a real menace. I would be a bit afraid to wear. Very impressive though, gorgeous.

I was thinking a plaque which had been bent?

I was thinking "I want that!" :p It reminds me of the pieces made to resemble bats, so if a fashionable lady in the Art Nouveau era had seen that she'd have wanted one too.

Obb, thank you very much for thinking about these possibilities.
Could very well be made out of a bent plaque

Not so sure about it being flat originally. It would be difficult to bend it without the folds on the edges of the wings crumpling. A bit like when you bend a pipe it flattens. It would have done really well to keep its form if it was bent.

Agreed, and a plated metal would end up with VERY noticeable fractures and flaking of the finish

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Love it! The bangle you are wearing above it looks like a halo for the owl.
Is that owl comfortable to wear?

Figtree, the yellow one is the latest addition to my bakelite collection. Its so nice to wear bakelite every day in summer. Owly is comfy enough. My husband enlarged his wingspan ( its hard to bend) so he sits a bit higher up the arm now.:smug:
