First off I have missed you all!! I have been working nights lately and have had insomnia on top of that, so I have not been able to visit Antiquers lately, soooo tired. But I have had a few days off and have rested up a bit and now trying to catch up on a few things around here.:)
What is this critter? A swan?, Duck?
What is it's purpose? What is it? It has a small piece/plug that pulls out of the top. It sits in loosely and not sealed. The inside appears hollow.
The markings appear to be under the glaze and are very hard to see, it's not bad photo skills.:hilarious:
    Thanks for your time!

Welcome back Ty, hope you wil get some sleep now.
It is a lovely celadon porcelain snuff bottle. The duck (I think) is munching on a lotus stem. I don't know if ducks can munch.....

Wow, thanks Any Jewelry! A snuff bottle, thank you, thank you. How big is the snuff they use? Just curious because I have no clue. Is it like a powder? Just wondering how they would fit it in that small hole?
Is it Japanese? Any idea on age? Wow, I'm shooting so many questions at you!! LOL:D

Shoot away.:D As long as it is just questions.:)
Snuff, either tobacco or (other) herbs, is ground to a powder, the bottle is filled using a little funnel.
Snuff bottles are generally Chinese, but the Japanese made some for the Chinese market. I think your little treasure is Chinese, but I'm not sure.
    I really love it.

A friend of mine was looking at this and he asked me to post a comment. He collects chinese scholars items and he said it is a Chinese water dropper. It is to slowly drop water onto solid ink. He said that the long plug shows how much water is left in. I tjink I will now google that item and see what images come up. Very old ones are valuable.

OK I looked at images for "antique chinese water droppers" and he seems to be correct.

It doesn't look old from here.

My friend did not think it was old. I looked at images of old ones to see if it was a common form to be copied or reproduced.
