Featured Belgian war hero Gaston Léger, would like to know more.

Thank you for looking it up. Yes I found the Canadian Gaston Léger too, but none in Belgium.
I tried Germany as well, since he was born there, but nothing so far. And the family could have moved back to Belgium when he was a baby, so there wouldn't be much in German records anyway.

As he is a "Vuurkruiser" by the second medal he got, he should be registered in the " GULDENBOEK DER VUURKAART", but he isn't.... ???

I know! Maybe they got his first name wrong and he is listed as Alphonse instead of Gaston. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.
The Vuurkruis thing was one of the few things my mother told me about the Brussels relatives. As a girl she was staying with the Légers in Brussels when Gaston was awarded the Croix du Feu, and she remembered how impressed everyone was.

 

Being French Canadian, I can attest to the fact that both Gaston and Leger are quite common names so it's easy to find another one. I think it's wonderful to have so much information already and I hope you find much more. It's just possible it hasn't made it to the internet.

 

@kristiaan , I have been trying to find out more about the political prisoners and found this: "Nationale Confederatie van Politieke Gevangenen en Rechthebbenden van België", but the url of their site doesn't seem to work. Do you have any connections or maybe know a way to find out more?

I found that, but it is only for the district Meensel-Kiezegem. The second one is to find files on Jewish children. Neither apply to our Gaston.

Thanks Bev. The search option didn't show anything for Gaston, I get the impression it is only for people who died in Flanders Fields, which is what I already thought.
I'll get in touch with them, maybe they know other ways to find him.

 

Yes, I realize he's not buried there, but they have contacts all around the WWI organizations.
