    I just went and checked to see what the Spanish think about the term "Spanish flu." El Pais, a major national newspaper, had this to say in 2018. (I've run though Google Translate.) To summarize, it's the editors' opinion that NO ONE believes the "Spanish Flu" originated in Spain and it very might well have originated in Kansas. Why Kansas, you might ask? A very good question!

    It seems it was the age old problem of living in close proximity to animals, causing a zoonotic viral infection.
    One of the US soldiers came from a farm in Kansas. He was already sick before he boarded a Navy vessel, and he had also already infected some of his fellow soldiers.
