    Hi all,
I have these berlin candlesticks marked "AG & Co" and I am wondering if the mark is contemporary at all and if so, seeing that it's the German equivalent of "incorporated", does it in any way indicate the maker?
Also, do the K within the Berlin mark and the secondary essayer's C mark point to a specific year? All I know right now is that these are 19th century marks.

I'm a bit confused about the question concerning whether 'A.G. & Co.' is contemporary (is there a reason you think it's not?) - and do you think the initials are the 'AG' abbreviation for Aktiengesellschaft? I don't know the mark, but it is most likely the maker's, though a retailer is a possibility, and would almost certainly be for 'someone and company' - the 'K' in the bear mark would be for Kessner, the Berlin guild warden from 1819-54, and the 'C' was used by Friedrich, secondary assayer from 1848-54, so your candlesticks were assayed in a fairly small window, from 1848-54...

I wonder if it isn't a Hanauer for the English market. the Co. is written the English way.

They're not Hanau - they're proper Berlin marks. Not particularly unusual for German firms to use the '& Co.':

    And in advertising as well:

Here's an ad using the French form, '& Cie':
