    Too true Bron-To have never had even a drop,what would life have been ? Humans though have been finding ways of escaping reality for millennia.

    well,,,,the top bar locks so the servants couldn't get at the booze , replacing it with water..

    hey...that;s not just me.... y'know..

    A Tantalus is a small wooden cabinet containing two or three decanters. Its defining feature is that it has a lock and key. The aim of that is to stop unauthorised people from drinking the contents (in particular, "servants and younger sons getting at the whisky"), while still allowing them to be on show.

    I have never seen my older British woman neighbour with groceries.......but I see her often with a hand bag full of wine bottles..
