    hi folks

bought this huge japanese sumida gawa bowl today from a house clearance shop, not cheap cheap (£20) but thought worth it

not sure on age of it, think they carried on into the 1940s

would it be a planter ?

no damage which is surprising, but paint loss to base

quite an impressive thing i thought

    any thoughts appreciated

It was cheap, that's a good example with unusual decoration, I'd had paid plenty more for it.

Probably 1920's, generally used as decorative bowls, the paint doesn't really suit heavy use as a planter etc. Paint loss to base is normal and doesn't really affect value.

    Well done you, great spot.
