I will always be a book dunce. Can anyone tell me if this book is of any importance?

I hope this permalink from the New York Times works for everybody. The Washington Square Classics series was started in 1911, and Black Beauty was one of the first titles issued that year. Mentioned in the last paragraph of the highlighted article. https://nyti.ms/4u5l4H6

They may have been reissued in later years. I didn't research that. @2manybooks has already given a good idea of value.

 

2 available on eBay. Zero sold in last 3 months. Asking price $150 and $250 respectively. Neither has your black cover which I think makes it look most attractive. I think getting around $50 is a win for a book like this but you could always try for more. I actually like selling books in this range on FB. Many people that shop on FB don’t shop elsewhere online for some reason. I know this because I charge more for some items on FB than I could get elsewhere and they do sell. I particularly like doing it with books that look/seem special and maybe rare but maybe aren’t. In the under $50 range I sell them somewhat regularly. Your particular book would be an attractive decor piece with a wide appeal I think. Keywords and how it’s marketed can be very helpful.

 

This is a c. 1920s US reprint edition of a book originally published in the UK in 1877. The title is missing some gilding. I would be very surprised if it found a buyer at those price points. However, I could be wrong. Here's some sales history if @Kronos would be so kind.
