This piece has a black-on-black incised design & has a paper "Hecho En Mexico" (Made in Mexico) sticker & what I assume is an inventory-type sticker with a "C-20" on the bottom.

It is 6 1/2" from the tongue to his tail, 4 1/8" across & is 3 3/4" to the top.

It could be Barro Negro pottery from Oaxaca.

Hey sure-- I agree that it could be from Oaxaca, which does produce small animals like this, but the incised designs don't look quite right to me for Oaxaca.

I also think it could be Mata Ortiz, which is probably my better guess, but again the design doesn't look quite right for there either.

In both cases there's usually a signature or initials.

Either way, he's a great little whimsical guy!

AJ is correct, it's a fairly contemporary style of black pottery, from Oaxaca, Mexico. Sometimes the distinctive, pointed, etched designs are colored-in. with green, blue, red, or yellow...as shown on this pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/501869952204147972/
