This give away will be limited to people with a proven record of active participation in the forums.

The book is "In the Presence of the Dragon Thone: Ch'ing Dynasty Costume 1644-1911", by John E Vollmer. (Vollmer has published several books on the subject.) It was published in 1977 by the Royal Ontario Museum in connection with an exhibit of their collection. If they re-staged that exhibit, I'd drag my butt down there in a New York minute.

This book is a very good introduction to the subject. It discusses history and evolution of the garments, color and pictorial symbolism, types of garments, rank badges. There are diagrams showing lay-outs for cutting the cloth, detailing the elements of the garments, lots of photos. Most of the photos are black and white but there is a smattering of color. 87 pages with a biliography.

    Free shipping (cheapest).

If more than one person is interested, a choice of recipient will be made Monday evening.

The modern spelling is Qing. The new spellings were adopted about 1979. That's when Chinese transliterations gained acceptance in the West, replacing the older European transliterations. It's when, in the West, Peking became Beijing (as another example). After this was published.

I wouldn't know what to do with this if I had it, but you've already got three takers.

By the way, I like the way you worded this:

Whenever I next do a give away I'll use some wording like that.

Time to pull the plug on this.

I decided to disallow Jose Deleon as he has only been on the boards a couple of weeks. I welcome him to the boards hope he remains and becomes an ongoing participant.

That leaves 4 people in the draw:
    KikoBlueEyes
    komokwa
    Figtree3
    Any Jewelry

Now I'll wander off and find some randomizer to make the selection. Back in a few.

This is not an expensive book and it can be found readily online. Lots of good info.

Thanks to everyone for taking part!

    Congratulations, @KikoBlueEyes !

It's funny that the random order of the draw was the same as the order in which we got into the draw. So maybe this is a case of "the early bird gets the worm." :)
