Now that I've used, but I think today it's only done with precious metals.

Test kit arrived today. got started right away. gold testing succeeds. I understand how different solutions work. but silver remains difficult. I don't know if the color I see is the right red dark brown color that indicates silver. here are a few examples. First a 925 marked silver ring

After5 min i put platina solution then dissapeard the line. What ikind of materiaal act like this? 20211217_111044-0_copy_960x432_1.jpg

I usually use 18k acid to scatch test silver; it's not as color-dependant. The platinum...not a clue.

    Thank you evelby30
What kind of reaction shoud i see when i use the 18krt acid? I ask this because I only see that the scratches dissolve very quickly and a whitish color remains.
i will search that ... It is not magnetisch and not heavy... could it be also stainless steel?

It could be stainless, but stainless is a very hard metal.

When you hit sterling with the 18k, the metal "curdles" and turns white or gray and comes loose from the stone. It's unmistakable once you see it the first time. If it vanishes entirely it's not silver.
