Starting to do an inventory. Lots of sewing machine tools. She was a fancy stitcher in a shoe factory for forty years. I unloaded one of the tool boxes today. Surprise find - an old Daisy cap gun. I found another one a few years ago in another box of her stuff. I remember playing with these. I have to get some caps!

A collection of tools as necessity dictated.... guess she had to finagle with lots of machines in her day... The cap pistol is priceless... Would baking soda clean off the old powdery residue?

I have an old tool box... I put all my antique tools in it when I moved... I need to give it a look thru again... Just have to find it lol....

Looks a lot like my tools:) though I haven't seen my ball peen hammer in long time now that I think about it. Couple of things in there I'm not sure from the angle what they are, folding knife/tools and handle for something maybe.

    But hey.....I don't have a cool cap gun:D. I feel cheated!

The "folding knife/tools" is also a set of allen wrenches.

The folded measure is simply called a rule, and they make inside read and outside read rules. Has to do with what side of the rule the numbers start on. As an electrician, we use inside read rules, because you don't have to fully expand it to lay it flat on the ground. Just some of the useless trivia in my head, wish I knew more about antiques!

In the Jivvy household, the folded measure is called a "click stick"... don't know if that's a regionalism or a Mr Jivvyism.

I collected measuring tools for many years, Never heard "click stick" before. As I recall the original ones were German and called "Zig Zag". Dennis

A quick google tells me this is most likely a Mr. Jivvyism. Which is not a complete surprise.

What was surprising are the things that come up when you google "measure click stick"....

This was one. It's a butter slicer -- my butter slicer is a knife.

I have four more tool boxes to go through. One of them is a WWII ammo box that she saved. Another is a wooden box that looks like it might have been an ammo box, too. Heaven only knows what I'll find when I open those. My Mom was in the Army and did all her own household carpentry because she didn't trust my Dad to do it right. I still have most of my Handy Andy tool set that I got when I was 8. The box is all dented up.
