I have a pair of antique silver candlesticks. They were made hollow and, as many of those were, filled with plaster to weight them. We had some foreign students staying with us one summer and after they left, I discovered someone (hate to point the finger, but it wasn't hubby or me) tried to pry the bottom off. The plaster had dried so you could hear a little bit of rattling inside. They must have thought there was treasure inside. Still bummed out. :(

It is not magnetic, not even a little, on any part.
& I hit it with a magnet that can move a dime thru over half an inch of laminated press board.

See if it floats in water. I recommend an indoor vessel be used. If you decide to test it in a lake, a retrieval string is recommended. Then you may proceed to the Archimedean density tests with graduated vessel and scale. After all is said and done we want to see a detailed technical report, of course, or a video we can watch on you-tube. It would be a mini-version of Geraldo and Al Capone's safe!

But it would shrink a little. Any movement might release any joint.

I have a feeling the secret compartment is a fairy story, but freezing it might be worth a shot.

Odd thought, do you have some of those rubberized kitchen grabbers I generally use to remove stuck jar lids? They would give you a better grip to twist a suspected joint and won't scratch the candle stick.
