Brass Mask

    First let ne say I realize this is just a decorative tourist item. But I would still like to know the region of the world it is from. Also possibly the tribe and if it had a specific use or purpose. Measures 19 1/4" long and is 3 1/4" wide.

    I believe it is from west Africa - Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast or thereabouts. Based on a Senufo kpelie mask, but seems to be combined with some Dogon elements in the tall extension above the face.

    I prefer to focus on the high thick eyebrows and the saw tooth designs running down both sides of the face.

    I think the conclusion is that @Josh 's brass mask is clearly a tourist pastiche, as he noted in the beginning, so the artist may have drawn on all of these regional styles.

    Thanks to everyone for all of the information. Yes it is definitely a tourist piece, so some artist interpretation should be expected. They will make what sells and earns them money, even if it is not always accurate.
