Ganymede is an interesting thought, but I have yet to see a depiction that makes the youth so much larger than the eagle. This is a seriously weird sculpture, starting with the pose, arms akimbo, a strap across the ridiculously muscled chest that you would expect to be holding a quiver at the back but seems to just peter out, if I'm reading the rather dark photo correctly. Wondering if the head derives from Michelangelo's David: The bird is too small to be an eagle; more of a falcon or hawk. The young David was a shepherd, so it is not he. Ganymede has the usual story of a young shepherd who does not know he is the son of the king. I'm inclined to see this as a neoclassical fantasy of the artist. Quite happy to learn something different.
