Bronze singing bowl

    I grabbed this last weekend. Looking at the shape and the resonance of it, I would guess that it's a singing bowl. I'm not sure of the age but reckon it was made using traditional casting methods looking at the pattern on the base.

    I've never seen a foot on a singing bowl...it may ring an' resonate well, but to sing it must respond to rim-stroking.
    Are there any marks, other than the circular lozenge on the base?

    far as I know , singing bowls , have no base....and are always round at the bottom,

    Okay thank you. Thats that theory in the bin. Second option was a water bowl of religious background. Hindu perhaps.

    No intentional marks on it. Just the odd ding here and there

    It is quite thick. Its 13 cm across and weighs 875grams.
