I barely know which way up an old tea cup goes, but would be pleased if anyone can give me information about the (presumed cup) which the fragment pictured above was once part of.
    Does anyone recognise the painting?
    How old is it roughly?

It was in a wood in the Scottish Borders.

It is plain white on the other side.

The fragment is small with the face only being a few mm across.

I'm afraid I know nothing about possible manufacturing techniques.

I no longer have it in my possession, having given it to my niece . . . whose curiosity sparked this thread.

The dot pattern makes me thing it is possibly a decal. Can you look at it with a magnifying glass to see if you can see any brush strokes?

It is already magnified quite a bit in the photo. I don't have it now, so can't easily do what you ask.

My guess would be German in origin, based on the design; she doesn't look English.
