Please don't loose hope, I don't think there's a antique collector in the world who hasn't made mistakes when buying. On a number of occasions I've bitt the bullet when I first started, I have a cabinet full of things I shouldn't have bought for one reason or another. If you can find an agent in the UK your problems are solved, maybe they can unpack the package in the UK and video call you to make sure all is ok before sending it out, yes you will have to pay extra postage but that isn't a great deal more as the extra postage will only be the UK postage. I'd be happy to give my thoughts on any box before you buy, just PM me, I promise I won't bid ;)

Haha okay:D I believe I will be back for box hunting once my friend gets everything ready in uk… it seems that 90% of my antiques are either jewelry or boxes. Boxes are my lifelong passion, from empty candy boxes to proper antiques…there’s no way I could really forsake it!

I might also find interesting boxes here which I can post and discuss!

Another boxophile here.:playful: I have them everywhere in the house.
I think it started with Japanese lacquer boxes, but I now have boxes from other parts of Asia as well, and a growing collection of Dutch Frisian boxes from the 18th and 19th century.
And don't get me started on jewellery.:D

    And @johnnycb09 loves boxes too.:)

I feel like I hardly see your collection here. You should post some of your Asian box collection so I get inspiration for what to hunt for:smuggrin:

You're right. I have posted some of my Frisian boxes, but I don't think I have posted any of my Asian boxes.

I have some black coral, a friend from Barbados got me it. I made a pendent for my wife's necklace with it. I've still got some left.

I love boxes too but do not have anything older than mid century simply because that's what's been available to me at thrift. I've converted many vintage wooden silverware boxes too, pulling out the holders and re-lining with mat board.

I think the allure of the box for me is the potential for what it could hold and the surprise of opening it for the reveal... Even though I know very well what's in it. :p

Black Hawiian coral does turn up, but I don't think it's harvested any more.

Strange that although only those reddish coral s are regarded as precious coral, I rarely see gold and blue specimens on offer here…:wideyed: lots of black coral tho, but usually only in beads

One reason for me collecting boxes is that they look nice when photographed together with my jewelry :D and choosing the right fabric to reline damaged ones is also fun
