driving through the Vinschgau, today Italy, a well-known old passage from the north of the Alps to Italy, my wife suddenly pointed to a nice building up the next hill. so what else to do than looking for a street upwards ? Marienberg, an old cloister. with nice old church and a small cute but interesting museum. goodbye
Nothing like that anywhere in the US, for certain. Really beautiful. I don't know, what about the world's biggest ball of twine? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggest_ball_of_twine
Only if you happen to be the worlds biggest cat ! Thanks Fid....that was lovely ! You know you've got the glassies all a flutter.....huh !!!
now the glassies can discuss what a Krautstrunk is. it's NOT the lower half of a German. nearest to it would be "herbage stump". in southern Tyrol they speak (some kind of) German, but...
As for the word, it's a glass reliquary, meant for a church altar. The drinking glass shown was made to keep greasy fingers from becoming butterfingers, since back when glasses were worth serious money.
Hi Fid, Thank you for the views. That church looks so familiar. Either I have been there or I saw a documentary of it. My month long walking trip through Northern Italy was wonderful including the week I spent with a Sicilian girl doing the same. She no English and me very little Italian. She could not understand my broken Italian and I her Sicilian accent. God, I miss the 60s greg
greg, if you want to look it up on google-maps, best is to search "Burgeis" for the village below. very interesting corner where Switzerland, Italy and Austria meet. but who cares about landscapes ? it's the girl...
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Driving though Italy is such a treat and always something beautiful and interesting to see. So different than driving the highways here in the USA.
whole village disappeared when the dam was built and the lake flooded. not the only one in the Alps , but many are only seen when there's a very hotsummer and the water very low. in Spain there you also see Roman bridges and streets where there are water reservoirs today.
