Thank you for sending it to him. I was thinking about him when I saw the cameo. I think it is a very nice example of this work.

I found another Carnesecchi cameo while the Antiquers site was down, so I sent it to Pierluigi.

@Bronwen I found a Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm cameo on eBay, ending tomorrow. From Wikipedia: Boehm, 1st Baronet, was an Austrian-born British medallist and sculptor, best known for the "Jubilee head" of Queen Victoria on coinage, and the statue of the Duke of Wellington at Hyde Park Corner. During his career Boehm maintained a large studio in London and produced a significant volume of public works and private commissions.

Another cameo by John Nicholson of Dorking. It is dated 1852. Had a tough time getting the detail in the carving to show well in the pics, but there is alot of detail in the hair and beard. Two other Nicholson cameos were discussed on this thread previously by Bronwen. His signature is the longest of any carver ever! 20220907_191439.jpg 20220907_191337.jpg 20220907_191553.jpg 20220907_191128.jpg 20220907_191152.jpg

Hello Bronwen. Can I private message you now? I don’t really know how. Maybe if you message me I can answer? Thank you.

Not one I recognize, & may in fact be a dealer's price code.

Here is a set of cameo portraits with a signature I don't recognize. They are on Ebay France (link below). I think it is interesting that the entire family had portraits carved in shell. It is a shame that the children's cameos are broken. The girl's and mother's hairstyles are quite intricate and lovely. Does anyone recognize the signature? s-l1600.jpg s-l1600 (1).jpg s-l1600 (2).jpg s-l1600 (3).jpg

I'm reading it as Louet; is that what you see? Not finding him/her in any reference I have ready to hand. If you haven't managed to locate, doubt if I can. Think this Louet took more care with the ladies than with the gents.

Thats what I saw, too. I couldn't find that name when I searched for it.

Any chance it is Lonet, with accent over the e?

That name seems even less common than Louet, though.

The beginning 'Lo' seems pretty firm. Nothing starting that way turned up anything that could have been a match in my sources. I have less on French cameists than on the Italians, & makers who did not produce hardstone pieces are less well documented than those who did.

Any ideas on time period based on clothes & hair? Looks as though Mme X may be wearing a cameo herself.
