Out of town visiting family for a wedding and in conversations, my sister broke out these cameo’s that she inherited from my mother, that she inherited from her mother. My sister is not a jewelry person and has no knowledge of these. There value is priceless in sentimental value but in talking to me now would love to know anything anyone can offer. My grandmother was born in 1900, my mother 1928. @Bronwen I am leaning on you and anyone that can offer info. The brooch is 2.25 inches(6cm) and stamped 750 and i think 229(M or K???). The ring is stamped 18k(can not get it on camera due to angle, and 750. Two earrings and a pendant. Thank you all.
Fabulous set of jewellery !!! .. What a perfectly wonderful keepsake passed down through the family, Very nice indeed ... Joy.
Appreciate everyone’s comments . I am flying home early tomorrow so if any request for another picture please let me know while I still have access.
The 6th image shows the 750 stamp(same as brooch I assume?) and also stamped 18K, but I can not get my phone camera on an angle to snap it. There are no other makes on ring
Too bad. Odds are they're both Italian. The rose may well coral and probably Italian too. Beyond that...dunno. I'd guess the brooch is 1960s from the lady's hairstyle and nose.
The 750 mark means 750 parts gold per 1000 parts or 75% gold or 18 karat gold. Pretty definite that the brooch, earrings, and ring are shell cameos. The rose pendant maybe angel skin corral or possibly white jade. There is quite a bit of difference in hardness between the two and the coral should scratch easily. If jade, it might possibly be of chinese origin. If real jade, not jadite or nephrite, it will be very hard to scratch. If you scratch test it, make sure you do it in place that is pretty much out of sight. I agree that the shell cameos probably date to the 50's. I don't think the prissy little girl cameo came in until the 30's but I know that it was prevalent in the 50's and later.
Apart from the floral pendant, the cameos are all cut in helmet shell. The marks on the pendant are incomplete but Italian, from the end of WWII to 1968, probably Milan. Maybe one of your jewellery specialists can run down the maker registered as 229. My immediate reaction to all the shell cameo pieces was that they are from the 1950s, better than average quality. I still believe the flower could be ivory; coral would be my second guess. Very difficult to tell without having pix that tell more about the detail of the surface appearance. (And could stand to be cleaned, which may be done safely with mild soap & water whether it is stone, coral or ivory.)
They’re all lovely, Marco!!! Brooch is especially nice!!!!! The little rose pendant is beautiful as well
The mark on the pendant is Italian for 18k gold, as Gus said, date between 1944-1968, and made in a city or region starting with M. There are 7 candidates. There should be another letter behind the M, so we could see which M it was marked as, but the punch was worn, or sloppily punched. Or a punch with a bad hairday, which the girl certainly didn't have. If you can find the M mark with another letter behind it on one of the other pieces, we can identify the city or region. I have a suspicion it could be Messina on Sicily. Which would go with you current avatar. My vote is for angelskin coral for the floral pendant as well, although it looks like it could be a very thick piece of shell. It is stunning.
Was supposed to say 'one of our jewellery specialists'. This one is 'angelskin' coral: Not sure this link will open for others & show the same array of pix it shows me, but a number of ivory examples among them: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/312718767846674689/?lp=true
