@LauraGarnet02 Is correct, it is Japanese Sumida ware, the mark is for Inoue Ryosai one of the most well known makers of this style. It dates to the very early 20th century.

This is definitely Sumida pottery. The potter is Ryosai. Probably dates 1890 -1920. Would like to see the the full vase. I may be interested in buying if you are selling.
Sumida pottery was created specifically for export between the late 1800s and the 1920s. It is usually heavy and covered with figures in relief. Most pieces are everyday objects such as tea pots, vases, and mugs. Japanese Sumida pottery is found in a wide variety of shapes and forms and are called by many names.

Yours has a really cool subject matter! I had one by this maker that I sold last year or so. In general like $60-$150 was what I kind of recalled being the range for smaller vases like yours. I think mine went for $125 or so. However I think yours might fetch a much better price. Pretty sure a big cat is really a rare thing to have on one. The face on the man is so cool and creepy too. I can’t be sure but I bet collectors of Sumida Gawa might be pretty excited to add such a unique example to their collection. I don’t collect them and I know I would. The photos not great so I guess it could be some type of mythical foo lion or something but it looks like a straight up cat in that one photo. If it were me and I was selling it I would try an auction format. That way you can see if it gets a couple people that really want it bidding it up.

Ebay offers a great format for auction efforts. There is a variety of Sumida ware on the site now. I've purchased quite a few from their for my collection. Detailed photos and an accurate description of any damage such as chips, cracks, broken parts is required and recommended. Can you post more photos here?
