Can anyone tell me what this is

I bought this the other day at a thrift store but have no idea what it is if anyone does please do tell thank you

 

It's difficult to identify an object from one (poor quality) photograph but it looks as if it might be a vintagesque desk organizer and letter holder. This type of ware typically comes from India.

Thank you do you have any idea of a date range it might have been made?

 

Id guess 1960s-70s.

 

Something like this is really hard to date. Could be as above when it first began to appear in the U.S. market or later. World Market currently selling similar ware.

SNIPED by Davey!!!!! However the whole thing baffles me.......the holes which look like they "could" be for spoons, but then the placement of the drawer......bizarre to me??!!!!!

 

It was made in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, NW India. It looks a bit older than most Hoshiarpur ware you see in the west.

It baffles me as well, those slots are usually used to hang something, but there is a compartment behind it? Also the two runners, or whatever they are, in front of the slots, as if a little drawer (or three?) was supposed to go there.

 

Now THIS is a real puzzle!!

Add to the puzzle, there seems to be a large circular hole on the back on one side. Elise is that the only hole on the back?

You've got it, quirky, that is what it is! The funny slots are for the cables and the mystery compartment is for smartphones, etc.
(Whatever will they think of next. )

No, it is just that we left our sense of what things are in the 60s. Ah well, sense along with a lot of nonsense.

To be fair, the quality of the photo wasn't great.

 

And still....this setup just doesn't make sense to me !!!
Plug in the phones & they won't fit or sit nicely like this....
& with those phones....who wears regular watches...
& no guy puts his sunglasses with his phones and jewelry...

 

Except for its (modern) purpose, certainly could have been a vintage item. That type of ware has been imported since then.
