DS#2's girlfriend is opening an antique store in Brattleboro VT. The grand opening is tomorrow. They are still pricing things. They need some help. She'd like to know something about this rug so she can go about deciding on a price.
It's 5 1/2 feet by 9 feet, wool, and looks the same on both sides.
    Thanks in advance.

Caucasian Karachov Kazak rugs have similar wild designs, with a plethora of colors and the 8 pointed star and red & yellow diamond design.....

best I can come up with....only to add I don't see yours as antique if the attribution pans out..!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Very unusual design! It also looks like a Spanish mission church... but can't be, right?

I know those are probably the only photos you have. We can't see the whole design, but that does look like a snake.

Wishing her the best of luck in the shop opening today!

Thanks Aqui - I was wondering about the fringe.

Johnny - it does look like a kilim to me, and komo - it also looks like a Caucasian Karachov Kazak to me rug too!

Good idea silverbell - I'll suggest she does that. I'm sure that one of our members WILL know.

Thanks fig and any for the good wishes - I'll pass them along.

Oh - and fig - that church had me searching for rugs made in Mexico at first. :D

It is kilim technique (slit-woven tapestry).

My guess would be relatively modern/vintage Turkish / Anatolia. But I am not certain.

I believe the house-shaped motif usually represents a mihrab - a niche in the interior wall of a mosque that indicates the direction toward Mecca. But I don't think this particular kilim would be considered a prayer rug.

I figured a Kilim too, and with those colors it can't be an old one; they look factory-made instead of vegetable dyes. Rugs aren't even close to my expertise, but it's nice and bright.
