Can you help identify this old desk?

    Don’t know,your mother was probably correct (my knowledge is very limited) I really like the old proper davenport desks. Will google davenport sofas..

    A sea captains Davenport I believe. It might have been around the world.

    Some great replies, thank you all. And thank you for the pointers on thread etiquette. I will try to answer them all this evening once my toddlers have gone back to their Mother.

    The only information I have is that it was designed to be pulled onto a pedestal where the teacher would sit, students would stand on the opposite side when they approached.

    The drawers are all rather deep and the side door opens to reveal shelves.

    It was purchased from an antique store as a gift to my father but his partner didn't obtain any additional information. My old man loves pieces that are weird and wonderful so she was sold as soon as she saw it. Unfortunately I do not have room for it any more and need to sell it but have no idea of its worth.

    I don't think it matters much what you call it, it looks cobbled together from various parts and, in poor condition.
    Any time one has to struggle to ID a furniture form, you are going to have issues trying to sell it.

    Indeed, it is.
