If that's correct, would it be worth keeping / selling?

 

It is broken on one end

 

This appears to be bronze with traces of gilt so doubt it is for a gate or fence. May have been part of an architectural or furniture mount. I was initially thinking part of a curtain tie-back rod but think this may be a bit fancy and robust for such.

 

okay i agree and also thought a curtain rod end but now i think it might be a broken off Brass Fireplace Andiron
