locan1.jpg locan2.jpg locan3.jpg locan4.jpg Hello! Can anyone identify the maker for this fixed gravy boat? It looks like the mark says "Locan," but I'm not finding that name anywhere in my sources. I've tried to run photos of the mark and the piece through GoogleLens but I'm not having any success. I could really use another set of eyes.

It may be a retailer. I agree it reads Locan. Et cie means and company.

I found this little bit that I believe may indicate it could be the retailer/importer.

It mentions Locan & Cie "under the Lick House, SF". I found that there was a Lick House hotel in San Francisco that had shops on the street level, apparently destroyed by the earthquake/fire of 1906.

1877 directory in which Locan & Cie is mentioned over 40 times

    https://archive.org/stream/almanachfrancoca00unse/almanachfrancoca00unse_djvu.txt

    LOCAN & CIE,
19 RUE MONTGOMERY, and 107 and 109 RUE SUTTER,
    (Under the Lick House, SF)
    IMPORTERS OF
    FRENCH FANTASIES,
    FURNITURE, STATUETTES, MONZES,
    Pendulums,
    Fireplace Trims,
    Tapestries, Wool, “Zéphyr”, etc.

The Lick House though not Locan & Cie that I can see in this print.

Here they are in the 1876 directory, for instance. They don't seem to be dealing in china at that date. Nor branding themselves with French.
