Featured Carved Bird, Jade?

Hello everyone, Life is unpredictable! Mine has taken a turn and I will be moving out of my home so it's time to clear out. I wonder if anyone can help with this pretty carved bird. Could it be jade? It is quite cool to the touch. White stone with gray streaks. The bird is holding a branch in its beak. It measures 4" wide x almost 3" high. It's not marked, but I guess it's Chinese. Any guess on age? I've seen a few similar birds on auctions sites described as White Jade or Mottled Gray Jade. Thank you as always for your help.

 

I think it's a hard stone but not jade....

@New England, I saw you said it's not marked, but is that a mark or letter on the back end of this showing side??? It's very lovely!!!

That is the folded tip of the leaf. It's raised and slightly round. Thank you!

 

Looks like maybe marble to me..

 

does indeed look out of place........ maybe a close up would dispel any further speculation...

 

Nephrite Jade to my eyes! Too translucent on thin parts for marble, and the glow is right.
Specific gravity test will say (google for a tutorial).

 

Just for interest sake. While searching earlier I found some carvings listed as Alabaster marble. But there’s no such thing right? Two 2 different types of stones.

Ditto. Some Hetian/Khotan jade can look like that.

 

Here's a close up of the curled tip of the leaf. I do not think it is a mark although it does look like the letter "C". Thanks to everyone for their thoughts!

ONCE again, @NewEngland, and sorry to ask, but IF you have a good strong Loupe, could you take a good close look at the eye in the image I'm posting below....it does look to me like there is some small printing around it where I've pointed in red.... after enlarging I took a screenshot where Photoshop has it's own magnifier to add a bit more.....OR there could be NADA there.....But......I'm always hopeful for the owner!!!
