Featured Carved Chinese pendant-what is it made of?

    hello all
    Here i have a carved chinese pendant from a stone i cannot identify. It feels too soft to be jade. I would say soapstone but in this blue colour? I havent seen one like it before.

    There is a bird of some sort on one side, maybe a pheonix. And a dragon on the other with its tail wrapping back round to the pheonix. A few holes peircing right the way through. I also notice some small spots of gold in places. Remnants of gilding i guess?

    Measures 5cm x 2.5cm.

    Very likely the lapis-wannabe, sodalite.

    Does the carving have pyrite in it? A photo means little....both types of the stones can look the same.

    I think it's sodalite dyed within an inch of its life. The gray usually indicates dye.

    Lovely piece, Ratsy.
    Looks like these are pyrite inclusions, so lapis lazuli:
