    Odd how these things work out, i was hesitant to reveal my "flax cutter" story because it sounds kinda weird!
    Mine had flowers painted on it as well, no date though. I have since learned that many of these 19th century paint decorated skutching knives were not used to process flax but given to young girls as a rite of passage and are now considered folk art.

    I wondered about that, mine didn't have a mark on it! A flax cutter? really?
    Read an article today by a dealer in Vermont who sells them as folk art and discovered why they look so good, they NEVER wacked any flax!
