    komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    Ohhhhh girl !!!!!!
    It's not a take on a Dayak shield ...it is a Dayak shield !!!
    You scored !!!!!:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:
    You'll have to do your research but I think you'll like what you find out !!!!!!
    I'm unaware that these were ever made for tourists ...in this size !!

    ( at this size.....I'd buy the African carving too......it's not of the same ilk...but the carving looks to be very fine...)

    :) I passed on the African carving Komokwa, I’m sure they will sell it pretty quickly. They do look like small items in the sellers pics though don’t they? After you said Dayak I did a bit of Googling and thanks to you I made the buy!

    The handle isn’t part of the main shield which I think is less desirable than it all being carved from one piece of wood but it does have wear on it as AJ pointed out. Can’t see how it is attached though.
    It does look wonderful against a pale wall.

    That's a good 'un. I have no idea if it's tourist art or not but for five pounds who cares! I'd have been all over the African one too, but I have Ivorian connections - friends have lived in Abidjan for decades as part of a medical mission.
