Cast iron drafting table

Hi all
Recently inherited this drafting table
Solid wood table top with double legged 3 foot base. Cast iron with square top bolts. I cannot find any makers marks on it anywhere and have google-fooed until my fingers were raw... Any of y'all seen one like this before?

 

the top must be invisible .......lol..

 

The top was removed to be able to take it back home. Funny thing is, after I restore the base, Im considering putting a tempered glass top on it with rounded corners and edge line led lights....

 

But..... I resized the other pic with the top.

I must be getting old. Is it fashionable now to put LED lights around furniture?

Similar one on ebay they are asking $10K for. Think the price very ambitious but yours should have very good value. Wouldn't be too quick to modify yours.

Hi there. In some displays with tempered glass, carefully located small LED bulbs make the whole surface appear to glow. I've actually never done it yet.

 

my glass kettle has blue LED's.....i like to boil water with the lights off.....but then i bump into things..

JMHO.
with glass or plexi the drawing paper and/or the pencil would slide off too easily.
the one shown in one of the links with oak was renovated by a dork - no use anymore due uneven surface.
the good and professional ones in Europe all used birch.

 

Looks like the top is original on the OP's. I doubt if even the one on ebay has the original top.
