I'm not knowledgable about metalware but... Your piece is very nicely done. I'd start with the assumption it's a German cast iron charger from the late 1800s.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Not a foundry mark to my eye, but looks like might be definitely a tiny signature on the front where I've circled #1 in RED. Looks like it starts with a 'script J' and ends with Roman numeral II....to MY eye....which CAN be questionable!! #2 is highly questionable as another possible signature..... @paulw, you might want to look with a loupe??

    Thanks for that.
I've examined those areas now with a loupe and can't see anything resembling a mark or signature. In fact I've scrutinised the whole thing and can find nothing.
As I would like to sell it for charity, can anyone advise where to start in terms of possible value?
    thanks

Have you looked at Completed Listings on eBay? Helpful in giving a general idea of supply and demand.

they will certainly recognize if it's Fer de Berlin, which was a casting process where less material gave more details and therefore look as if it was simply deep-drawn sometimes. also used for iron jewelry.

    Thanks Fid and Debora.
Should it have a signature or mark of some kind?

not necesserally when it was a well-known subject. could be after one of the collections around the Pergamon Altar.

I know I wrote a wordy response to this and it has completely disappeared. Even if you leave the page without posting, doesn't system save a draft?

Summary: I don't recognize it; it has nothing to do with the Judgment of Paris. It's some fantasy scene in neoclassical style, similar to this:

Somewhere in between. Not sure how much market there is for this sort of thing today. It looks well made in its way.

A signature would help. Barbedienne? LeVillain?

While I see the points of similarity, what I see is: a fully armed & armored Athena standing in a posture usually reserved for men; two nymphs & three shepherds who are bystanders to the action; a small woodland creature, a satyr or Pan himself, holding out a spherical object which holds the attention of all; a sleeping dog.

What I don't see: a nude Aphrodite and Hera & Athena in some degree of undress (Athena may show up wearing her helmet but does not generally wear other pieces of her armour or carry arms); a young man, often in a Phrygian cap, surveying the candidates or holding out the apple to Aphrodite; Cupid near his mother.

The sparest depictions of the Judgment of Paris have at least the judge & the winner, Paris & Aphrodite. The plate has neither.
