    Oh no... :(
Plastic will 'off gas' until infinity ends..., as far as I know, so acid free storage may be the best.
Some things I found with misc. info in each.

Hmmm. Heat will do it too. I found a cool old purse at a tag sale and put it in my car trunk on the way home. By the time I took it out it was stinking of vinegar and didn't live long after that.

That is also true. Look at the site I put in the above post.

Jewelry people all know about "celluloid disease" - it's why you don't store one piece of it with any other pieces. If one goes they often all go. It's kind of like a fatal celluloid-specific version of pinkeye.

    My mistake then.
I thought someone would get some value from the one on purses in particular.

They probably will, but these are the reasons I generally don't deal in celluloid...and don't ship it in the middle of summer.(sigh)

    Hi,
I have a small celluloid box that I noticed was damp and sticky it was packed in a cardboard shoe box. I immediately washed it in soap and water and air dried. It still felt sticky I thought celluloid disease and was going to toss it. I washed it again with white vinegar and baking soda. Rinsed it really well and again left it out to dry. After a week of being ventilated it seemed to be okay. Do not know if the cleaning helped or just the aeration.
