Any Jewelry, sorry your beads aren’t Bakelite!

The clunk test does work, that’s how I check at sales where they would frown at someone with a Q-tip and Simichrome :stop:

The weight test is also good at a sale. After a while you can just tell if something is too light to be Bakelite.

I never can get the smell also so I don’t bother with that test.

No problem, Marie, I wasn't expecting them to be, celluloid is fine. That is why I was a bit apprehensive about using chemicals.
I am glad you approve of the clunk test, I could really hear a difference.:playful: And yes, they really felt too light to be bakelite.

Oh yes, the "clunk test" it doesn't have the stature of the taste test yet.......

    :hilarious: Here we go!

It kind of IS VooDoo! A black art at least. A piece of jewelry can be made out of multiple elements. Testing one can compromise or slowly destroy another.

I suggested the salt water/float test for amber beads recently. @Ownedbybear pointed out it might damage the thread.

Is it real, or fake? If fake, is it a contemporary fake or one of many antique simulations?

So we hang out and share our rookie mistakes with a bunch white witches and warlocks who've seen sooooo much.

You may have shared some mistakes of your own, no? :hilarious:

Did you get your Crosman box??

lol, WITCHES being the key word there!
I wish! sitting here waiting on it but with a 7.5k opening bid & 25% BP i am tapped out at the 1st bid, 2nd for sure. Waiting on the painted "beuro" & an 18th century windsor as well so, we shall see.
How about putting a little VooDoo on that box!? nevermind this junk:hilarious:

The craziest tip I ever heard: to cure cloudy amber, suspend it over simmering kerosene :jawdrop:

From a professional restorer with dubious ethics, but a lot of arcane experience, so...

    You're welcome! LOL :hilarious:

I can imagine that would work. But I don't mind cloudy amber.
I have been buying mostly Art Deco period Baltic amber lately, they loved opaque butterscotch amber in those days. So no need for kerosene, I will leave it nice and 'murky'.:D

Galalith can be used for some fairly convincing faux amber - might just be my sensitive nose, but it always smells slightly putrid to me...
