I have no solid idea but have seen some similar from early 1800's - I'll throw an 1825 out there (see if it sticks to the wall - LOL)

I still choose 1780's .. even though I don't believe the chair covering would last that long .. but it could have been rewoven in it's history, Joy.

Keep em coming ... Not that many guesses yet ... But THREE from Joy in the first 10 minutes! (is she's planning on the 50 guess "well it was ONE of my guesses" strategy?) :pompous: Who knows, that strategy may not work - I bought it here in Massachusetts, but I didn't say it couldn't be from another country (nor did I say it was)... :shame:

No strategy ..that's not how my mind works .. I stuck with 1780 but wasn't knowledgeable of when the different States were formed. The candy and Pork rind thing was only to have a bit if fun :sorry: .. Carry On folks, :) .. Joy.

I thought for sure this was going to be a poem @pearlsnblume - it started off so good. Any finishers? :)

Ohio, 1890? There doesn't look to be enough wear on the feet for it to be pre- American Civil War.

    New Jersey....late 19th-early 20th century.
Wild guess, I know nothing about chairs. Which is why I joined this forum, to learn new things.

It's a nice soft cane to rest my rear.

And though the cane is rather sparse ...
It's still a place to rest my arse ...

    Not American.
    Just a WAG.

    Took another look.
It might be as late as the 20s early 30s. And not 1890s

That seat looks exceedingly British. The ebonisation looks Regency, as does the shape and turning. I'll go with a slightly vague late 18th/early 19th and from my part of the world. Salon chair, we'd call it.
