Hi - apologies for what may be an obvious question from a newcomer - does anyone know what the "S" stamp on this dog figurine is?

    Many thanks

Reminds me of Staffordshire pottery, but do not know about the S mark being for them - most Staffordshire I have ever seen had no marks.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Maybe the S is for Springfield!

I agree with the Staffordshire similarity, but don't know of and couldn't find that mark.

The S mark will not help. Similar marks turn up on other pieces by various makers. I think the current theory was that they were used to help track who made which piece. Decorators were paid by the piece so it was important to know who made or decorated each piece.

You got it! I've got several items, one of them a McCoy wall pocket, with a single impressed letter just like that.

Maybe S for Smedley, the dog's name.
