If anyone can help identify the material and its cultural purpose of the stone disc shown here, and its likely age, I would appreciate it.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    possibly a Bi disc....of sorts...with dragons....
hard to say if it's jade, from the photo....
I wouldn't put a lot of age to it.....

this is more like it !!

Yes it is a Bi disc, an ancient symbol which represents heaven. As @komokwa said, with dragons. These particular dragons are often called 'forest dragons', and are dragonified (is there such a word?) geckos.
It isn't very old and these are still being made. Some are copies of old ones, others have decorations that are just 'thrown together'.

I think "dragonified" is a fine word!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Good thing I read this post. I thought they looked like panthers!
    And love "dragonified." :)

I’ve got a bead that looks like it’s made of very similar material with Chinese symbols on it. I’ll see if I can find it……….

    Thanks everyone.
It was bought at a local street market in Hong Kong in 1980, not in a tourist area.
It looks to be acid etched to me, not carved.

As far as I'm concerned, there should be more dragonification!:playful:
