Featured chinese yellow studio vase

    It’s hard to tell what yellow a yellow is without professional photos but yeh they can be a similar yellow. My phone camera in particular nearly has steam and screws flying out of it trying to capture yellows. I’d bet if you put this vase next to ten different true antique Chinese yellows this one would stand out as being not quite as nice. The type of glaze and how it was fired would be at play too though.

    Natural crazing is caused by temp fluctuations. The different rates of expansion and contraction between the glaze and ceramic cause the glaze to fracture. If the vase was sat on a hot surface, then the base would perhaps be affected more. Or possibly it's something that occured in the kiln. Maybe impurities from ash and such like got into the glaze on the base. Not sure if this would cause more crazing but I can see it being a possibility.
